LECTURE ON
STRESS MANAGEMENT
Canadian Nancy
Campbell delivered a lecture on stress management at the AWARE Center on
March 17. She is a counselor at Dasman Model
school and has been in Kuwait for four years.
Campbell gave useful tips on dealing with daily stress, and recommended a
"CRASH course." Each day, do something "C"reative,
"R"epair a personal or household
item , "A"chieve
something small or big, "S"elf-indulge with a
simple pleasure, and "H"elp a fellow human.
The CRASH routine focuses attention on the pleasures and positive
achievements that give one a sense of well-being.
The lecture was
followed by a question and answer session, as well as a quiz complete with
prizes for the correct answers. The attendees enjoyed a light dinner
afterwards in the Center's bistro, where conversations continued late into
the evening.

EXPOSING THE
CULTURE CLASH
Exposing the Culture Clash.
Dr. Teresa Lesher of the AWARE Center gave a presentation about the culture
clash between Arabs and Americans at the Canadian Women's League March meeting,
which was held at the New Park Hotel on March 6. "Intercultural scholars
generally agree that Americans and Arabs are culturally opposite," she said.
Lesher explained several differences between the two cultures and described how
they lead to misunderstandings between people. "Neither culture is better than
the other. Both are good, and we can learn a lot
from each other." Lesher also numerated the similarities between the cultures
and all people: the desire for happiness, respect, friendship and peace. She
mentioned verses from the Quran that explain that
God created us as nations and tribes intentionally, "so that you might know one
another." For more information about Arab culture, visit the AWARE Center,
which is a forum for intercultural relations and exchange.
