Kuwaiti Dialect
Conversational Arabic (Classical Arabic - Kuwaiti Dialect)
Learning Classical Arabic is very important as it can be used throughout the Muslim world in official establishments or media. It also paves the way for one to learn different Arabic dialects.
As AWARE aims at providing excellent learning experiences for Western expatriates in Kuwait as well as catering to their needs, the following prerequisites and guidelines are vital to those interested in the course. We hope you will be able to speak Arabic fluently at the end of the course.
Following are the prerequisites:
1- Potential students must have completed levels 1 to 2. This will help students a great deal in recognizing different Arabic letters and sounds, as well as enabling them to write down notes whenever the need arises. It should be noted that Arabic letters do not have equivalents in English; so you cannot depend solely on transliteration.
2- Once you join the course, make sure you observe punctuality. If you miss 20% of the instruction then you should not expect to benefit from the course as required.
3- Having background of the basic Arabic grammar is imperative in order to be able to construct meaningful sentences and conjugate them.
4- You should not expect all Arabs to speak Classical Arabic as it is only spoken during instruction in schools, colleges and universities, and in governmental establishment to some extent. It is also used in media throughout the Arab world.
During this course you will learn:
1- Basic simplified Arabic grammar tailored to students needs.
2- Exchange greetings and introduction on various occasions and in different situations.
3- Common political terms.
4- Express yourself in banks, health clinics, gyms, hospitals, airports, post offices, schools, universities, etc.
5- Bargaining while shopping and conversation for restaurants; describing dishes and delicacies.
6- Names of some clothes, colors and sizes.
7- Express yourself in different situations and on various occasions such as matrimonial ceremonies, condolences, etc.
8- Express yourself as to how you feel about things happening around you (agree – disagree, like – dislike.)
9- Read signs and signboards.
10- Give a brief oral presentation at the end of the course about a topic of your choice.
Kuwaiti Dialect
Learning the language of the local people in the country in which you work or live is very important and may serve as, "a stitch in time saves nine." It is also an indicator of your respect toward the locals and the country.
Due to the fact that AWARE Center aims to provide excellent learning experiences for Western expatriates in Kuwait, we have come up with these concise guidelines and prerequisites regarding learning Conversational Arabic. We hope you will be able to speak simple Arabic at the end of the course. Following are the requirements of learning Conversational Arabic:
1- Learn how to write and pronounce the Arabic alphabet in its script. Many Arabic letters do not have an English equivalent. To the newcomer, the new sound may be difficult to distinguish or confusing in oral conversation. Learning by transliteration is not recommended at all as it could distort the pronunciation and change the meaning. Thus becoming familiar with the Arabic alphabet, written and oral, is a very solid first step towards learning basic vocabulary and phrases. As such, it is our requirement to complete Arabic Level One in order to register for the Arabic Conversational class.
2- Being able to pronounce letters of the Arabic Alphabet properly as well as matching those letters to recognize simple words.
Note: Before starting the course, students will undergo an assessment test in marching and recognizing letters of the Arabic alphabet as well as words.
During this course you will learn:
1- Count from 1 – 1000
2- Exchange greetings and introductions
3- Read signs and simple words
4- Express yourself in banks, health clinics, hospitals, airports, post offices, etc.
5- Bargaining while shopping and conversation for restaurants; describing dishes and delicacies
6- Names of some cloth materials and colors
7- Description of the climate and weather
8- Memorizing some Arabic proverbs and maxims
9- Give a brief oral presentation in Arabic at the end of the course
10- Express yourself as to how you feel about things happening around you (agree – disagree, like – dislike)
If you are interested in the program, please do not hesitate to sign up for the class, or call 00965-5335260/80
