From the end of August to mid-September, the AWARE Center held a series of special events welcoming newly arrived Westerners to Kuwait.
Over 200 westerners attended the events designed to not only introduce newcomers to the AWARE and its many services but also to give them an introduction to the Kuwaiti culture, advise them on what to expect and also equip them with the basic coping tools to comfortably settle down in their new home.
Each "Welcome to Kuwait Orientation for Newcomers" started by AWARE staff warmly greeting attendees as they arrived at the center. Staying true to the local tradition Arabic coffee and sweets were served.
Guest were then handed an informational package about Kuwait and the AWARE center, as they settled down in the traditional Kuwaiti diwaniya to listen to the evenings presentation.
A short documentary about the AWARE center was shown followed by a presentation “Know thy Kuwaiti Neighbour" about the local culture, societal norms and the do's and don'ts when living in Kuwait.
The audience was then invited to ask any questions in a brief Q&A session before heading to the AWARE bistro to enjoy a buffet dinner comprised of numerous local and Arabic dishes.
